The article presents an analysis and interpretation of a poem Toast written by Jan Lechoń. It is shown as a record of melancholy psyche and an example of a peculiar “aesthetics of melancholy”. The perception and representation of the world in the poem are characterized by a principle of anamorphosis, allegorization, and analogy of mikro- and makrocosmos. In “melancholic project” recognized in the poem the author differentiates a repetition figure, superior to the text’s realization, and some elements of an untoward game with a reader.
